Master clockmaker Horst Landrock's passion for clocks and watches has led him, in the course of his life, to amass a collection of international importance. The history of clockmaking from the late Middle Ages to the 19th century is illustrated by examples notable for their technical and aesthetic qualities. This book tells how the collection began and how it grew; it pays homage to Landrock and gives examples of the good luck and ill fortune of the collector. His pieces are placed in a historical context; we find primitive timekeepers, early geared clocks, astronomical clocks, fine examples of Friesland and Black Forest clocks, precious cases and works by famous craftsmen, as well as a wealth of pocket-watches, ranging from 17th-century pieces to cheap 19th-century utility watches. Clock and watch keys and historical clockmaking equipment complete the collection. The photographs were taken especially for this edition by Ullrich Windoffer.
