The Lion and The Sun

Set in Burma, in the period just before and during WW II, the novel deals with Burma's struggle for freedom: first, under British colonialism, then under the oppression of the Japanese. It is an epic that deals with ordinary men and women - businessmen, students, drug traffickers, prostitutes - in extraordinary times.
