"An Anthology of English and American Poetry" is the most complete and representative collection of poems, folk ballads and fragments of poems in English among similar publications published in our country. The "Anthology" contains 475 works by 169 poets. All the works are arranged in chronological order. The English part of the "Anthology" covers six centuries (from the 15th to the 20th century); the American - three centuries (from the 18th to the 20th century). Works preceding the Renaissance were not included in the "Anthology" for the reason that, being written in Old and Middle English, they present significant difficulty for a reader fluent in modern English and require special and extensive commentary. The "Anthology" can be considered quite complete not only because it presents all the major poets of England and the USA of the specified historical period, but also because the most valuable works in ideological and aesthetic terms, most indicative of the original talent of each poet, were selected from the creative heritage of these poets.
